Lip smackingly good

One night as we headed back for camp we came across a few vehicles and some hyenas. We started shooting them but realized our mistake, the other cameras were pointed in the tree :o

The whole story is on my blog ;) I cropped it square as he was looking right at us and having him to one side ruined the comp.

It was late, getting dark and this was ISO 1600 on the 7D, 500 f4.

Stunning, also stunning images on your blog, , very jealous of the day time leopards. Despite South Luangwa's reputation we did not get one. I love the portrait on your blog with the Leopard and the kill in the same frame ... The other shots on there are top draw too, I have enjoyed reading it sounded a wonderfull trip. :toast: :toast: :toast:

That's a killer shot. Love the details, especially considering 1600 ISO.
The eyes, the tongue. Great.

Thx for posting

Cheers guys. The portrait was a 3 shot stitch as I wanted to use the 500 for maximum detail....wish I had done more without flash on that one, but when the adrenaline is pumping

Everything is here to like—the eye contact, the tongue, the blood stained whiskers and pelt—Except the specular highlights behind the subject. Tone those down, or remove them and you have a winner.

That's the advantage of having a group with several sets of eyes!
Incredible eyes and face! Great tongue.
The bright BG draws my eye a bit, so you might consider dampening it little.
Nice!!

I can try with the BG but it was dark and the sky was brighter, flash shots have a darker sky but the eyes are like full moons! Cant win. Maybe I see a mono conversion in Its future ;) Cheers all.

I am not worried by the background and do not feel you should be, the large eyes and big bold tongue flick demand all my attention and hold it, this is stunning as is, particualy as it is such a rare encounter to have and so close up.
