Peepo

I normally post in the UKNP gallery and this is my first image here in the macro gallery. It's actually one I posted a month or two ago over in UKNP but I'd be very interested in feedback from this gallery. (I'm working under the assumption that most of the regulars on this gallery don't regularly view images on UKNP but apologies if that's not the case).

It's a Jumping Spider - Sitticus pubescens on a yellow leaf taken deliberately from a very low angle to get the 'peepo' effect.

Canon 7D with MP-E 65mm macro lens and heavily diffused MT-24EX flash unit, f11, 1/160, ISO 100. Full frame in terms of width but a slight crop off the top for composition.

Please view the larger version if possible.

All comments welcomed

Wow, what an eye-catching photo! (No pun intended) I love your POV choice for this and the wonderful diffused yellow BG around those beady eyes. Also the comp choice with the eyes centered works well for this. I feel he is watching me and waiting to pounce. Great job, Matt!

Excellent, I love the DOF and sharpness of the eyes. I have seen many macros of this spider before but what makes this one so special is the uniform background and low angle so that nothing disctracts from 'those beady eyes' - top shot! :toast:

Original & unique, I think the "peepo" theme/title works very well.
You could even say it's kinda "cute", usually never the case with a spider image..
It's all about the eyes here, well done! :toast:

That's a very nice shot. All that yellow and those eyes.
Like you POF, but having said that, the only (minor) thing that I think can be improved is the flare of yellow that covers the lower half of the eyes.

But like I said, Great shot
Thx for posting

This is darn cool, Matt! I love it! The extremely simple composition ensures that the viewer isn't distracted, and the brilliant color is an excellent eye-popping (ha) compliment to those incredible eyes! I love the reflected light in the eyes as well. Awesome shot!
