This can't be a weed, it is too beautiful and flashy but it just grew up among some shrubbery and was not planted by us. I'm expecting someone to say "that's a ..."

I have been shooting most all flowers inside with studio lighting and the other day it was so windless that I shot this outside.

Really nice Charlie.... I love the lighting here. Is this flashed? Great little details... but I DO wish that the whole flower was in focus as I find the near petals a bit distracting. Very nice though. (And my first thought on ID is black-eyed susan, but I really don't know.)

No flash, David but I used a silver sided reflecter, to the left, to brighten this. I think it is smaller than black-eyed susans but am really not sure. I have some other shots of this flower which I may post later that are more uniformly in focus. I just liked the side light detail on most of the petals and that is why I went with this first.

Charlie: Really good use of the reflector and a fine capture. The only thing that would make this better is if you could burn/clone away the stem. Nicely crafted image.>=))>

Sorry but I can't ID this either. It's not anything I recall seeing.

Superb comp for my tastes. I can understand the suggestion already made but I like this as posted. Perfect yellows. No suggestions on my part.

Beautiful shot, but I agree with David that out-of-focus area is a bit distracting. Love the light.

Charlie,
I love your comp and that yellow against the dark background is superb. I don't know the ID but this is a very nice flower. :toast: :wavey:

No idea on the ID. Good job on the comp and exposure. I'd prefer a little more DOF to get the right (closer) side of the center in focus, but good as is.

I'm another wishing the center was all sharp, but a well composed and shot image.

Lovely flower. Might be one of the arnicas (arrowleafed, perhaps?) a nice capture but the bright spot in the bg just off the lh leaf keeps pulling my eyes away from the main subject. Your color is beautiful.

Charlie, the color and textures that you've captured in the petals and head on the left are terrific. The bright off petals on the right are a big distraction, you might try burning them in. There are too many "sunflowers" and coneflowers to ID this from your picture. It's a beautiful flower.

Thanks all for critiques and comments. Here is another shot with all petals in better focus, but upper right ones a bit blown. I have never used a reflecter before and didn't get it right. Oh, well.

Charlie:
Both versions are beautiful. Others have voice their wish for sharper petals but I the selective focus. The exposure looks fine to me.

The color and detail in the in focus petals is so excellent that I find wish I could see all of the petals like those. So, I guess I am agreeing with David. And, I like Bill's suggestion on darkening the stem some. Still, that lens and your processing make for some great clarity. Great work on the lighting and the color.
