American Goldfinches

This was another from the same session as the last one. I liked the line-up of the three birds, though I do wish the furthest was turned a bit more toward me. Two of them left immediately afterward and I'll probably post the image with just one, also-largely because I like the water in it.

1D4, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f8, iso 640, Av mode with -1/3 compensation (I don't have the EXIF handy so I'm not sure what the shutter speed was). Minor crop for composition-this is probably 80% full frame. Normal processing in CS4 except no saturation was added-I thought it had plenty already.

As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments.

Thanks,

Impressive line up Dennis. The water tones and rings render a very tranquil image. I wonder what the trade off would be between stepping down just a tad to pull the last bird in a bit and the background bokeh- just a thought.

another nice one, Dennis--love the light, the colors, the great texture of the water, the grasses. the dof here is fine with me--the front bird is very sharp, and that's the one we see best. at 700mm it would be next to impossible to get all three sharp.

Once again beautiful colors and light. I really like the lineup and that you can clearly see the eye on each bird. This bird bath is serving your photography needs very well.

Really like the lighting and overall feel of your shot! Now the real challenge would be to get all 3 finches to pose in a nice little conga line! :toast:

I really like the lighting on the first bird, I think this would work better if we could see more of the second bird :toast:

Cool to have these birds lined up and I like the lichen on the rim of the bird feeder.

Dennis, this is really cool. It is like you are looking at past movements of the closest bird. Love the color palette of this as well.
