This was taken about a month ago in near Durango, Colorado. It was the first night of an 8 day/7 night solo trip. Two shot exposure for dynamic range - hand blended. Processed in CS4.

All comments and critiques greatly appreciated.

Hello Michael, this is hell of a shot for me ! Very beautiful colors here. I like the clouds and the peaks in the background. The flowers in the foreground are very nice compliment to the scene. Have you done the blending for DOF as well ?

Congratulations on having been there to experience and appreciate what looks like an incredible night. The composition you've chosen is easy to appreciate for its simplicity. I wouldn't mind seeing more sky and trading some of the sloping middle ground to keep the flowers in the frame.

Very nice, Micheal! Love the flowers in the foreground, and the sky is beautiful as well. The lake is perfect to fill the middle of the frame. Well done!

What a wonderful scene, Michael. Beautiful sky and the reflected color in the small lake is really nice. The hillside of flowers looks wonderful. It must have been super being there to see this view first hand. At least this makes me feel like I'm there! Beautiful work!

Beautiful shot here, Michael. Well composed with wonderful light. At this size the foreground feels a little dark - that is to say the details kind of get lost a little. I don't think that would be a problem in a larger print and I think the exposure is appropriate given the time of day. Overall this is excellent work!!

By the way, you have an excellent portfolio of images. I am very impressed.

Just another example of why we call it, "Colorful Colorado." Great color and the sky and it's pink reflection make this one very special.

Wonderful layers to like here…. From the gorgeous sky to the wildflowers, it’s all good.
I agree that the foreground looks a bit dark.
I thought that lake was a snow patch.

Thanks everyone for their comments. @Pavel - I did not blend for DOF on this shot. I actually had finished shooting when the light began to appear and I set back up and grabbed 3 sets of 3 bracketed exposures. (I believe I hand held the grad) The light didn't last long and it was getting dark pretty quickly so I really didn't have a chance to. The thing is because I was up high and shooting almost directly across the depth of focus is excellent and it wasn't critical like if I was down low and shooting up.
@Brian + Richard - I darkened the shot substantially before posting here on the web. I wanted to keep the foreground lighter without making it look unnatural. The shadows are dark, but the details in the flowers are all there. I'll be interested in what others have to think too.

Beautiful, Michael! Excellently composed, following the "rule of thirds".
What a wonderful variety of wildflowers. The color in the sky is a nice
plus. As some others have said I too would like to see the foreground
a little brighter, but as you said you captured the detail. Perhaps
brightening it would not look natural.

What beautiful soft pastels you have! Nice scene and composition too. For me the shadow detail is fine. You can see everything you need to see here. I imagine any effort to see the details would be less, or non existant when viewing a print.

Great shot Michael. I love the clouds and the soft colour reflection in the pond. The light is well balanced throughout and has a very natural feel; I would never have guessed this is a blend.

Nice work Michael. Comp is very clean and the processing looks great in terms of the blend. If it was mine, I would look at a small amount of noise reduction in the sky, but overall a great one.

Wonderful light and comp. Foreground seems a bit dark, but this is the second image this morning where I noticed it, so maybe I need to recalibrate my monitor.

A very nice landscape, Michael! The exposure, lighting and colors are perfect and the composition is well balanced. The perspective of the shot (looking downward) causes an interesting appearance that the lake is tilted significantly toward the viewer.
