From the Forsythe refuge a few days ago. I think this is a first fall female yellow warbler.
Please see LARGER version, and thanks for your critiques!

50D, 500mm, ISO 200, 1/400, F4 From beanbag on car window at first morning light.

Hello Sharon, a wonderful shot of this nice species. I do like the pose, colors and natural surroundings a lot ! Only nit would be that - especially on the larger photo - the focus point seems to lie more on the back/shoulders than on the eye/head ? Or is it my tired eyes after sitting behind the computer too long  Anyway, a very pleasant shot ! Greetings, Hans

I love the pose and direct interaction here. Light is lovely and comp is well chosen. Appears to be soft at the eye.

A great pose and comp Sharon. Love the light and habitat. f/4 hurt a bit here with the very shallow DOF. Back is tack, head just a bit shy. Still a great shot.

I really like the upside-down pose here. Good light too. Slight softness on head/eye noted.

Absolutely lovely composition with surrounding complimentary foliage. It would appear that suggestions of smaller aperture would have made this a total knockout image, instead it is just OUTSTANDING. You do understand, I hope, that I love your image.

Nice catchlight and excellent pose. Lovely complimentary background for this little cutie. I agree the back is a bit sharper than the eye but not an image killer IMO.

Nice pose and composition; I agree about the focus/DOF issues.

By "Forsythe" I assume you mean Brigatine (or simple Brig as every experienced birder in NJ calls it). How were conditions following Irene?

Thanks everyone...I agree with the dof issue and hoped the pose would help overcome that. I was so disappointed that not one of the 3 frames of poses I shot like this didn't have better focus on the eye.
Richard, you've corrected me before on this...the Edwin B. Forsythe NWR is called "The Brig" or Brigantine by most of us. This particular image was not shot there, however. They have multiple tracts of wetlands that they have purchased and this one is from just south of Beach Haven West/Manahawkin area (the bay side of LBI). We have friends whose house borders there. As far as Hurricane Irene goes...they had only a couple of trees in the wooded area go down and NO damage! I was so happy when I heard that. We had a beach house rental at Brant Beach on LBI last week and I got to go to several places near there, including The Brig 3 mornings and I hope I have some good warbler photos from there, too. Bombay Hook also fared well from what I hear. On the other hand, our home here in PA had water in the basement and we had no power for 6.5 days. I spent the entire day yesterday cleaning out the refrigerator and the freezer. NOT FUN! But, lots of people had it a lot worse...north Jersey really bad and all those along the Delaware River in PA and NJ. Anyone on the West side of that massive storm really got nailed with rain/wind and fortunately for Bombay Hook and The Brig...they were right near the eye. Doesn't make sense to me...but that's how it is!! Sharon

Very nice image Sharon. I like the setting and that the bird is looking right into the camera.

I like the upside down pose and the slight head turn. The light is also very sweet. Very nice.

I'm working backwards, Sharon and I think this is even better than your latest post. I love the angle and eye contact, and the habitat is gorgeous.

This is great Sharon. I really like how the greens frame the image and he peeks thru it. I wish for more dof on the body but it works this way for me as well.
