Nice to see a fellow NY photographer on here... I never made it to Nickerson (which is a shame) but love seeing all the photos from there. Great colors and exposure - the behavior is neat too. A wonderful first post.

Super shot, Nick. Getting the feeding action with the clam is tops. Really like the low angle and the surf in the background. Great exposure on the blacks, but the whites look a little hot. :toast:

Welcome!
Nice first post - seems to have nice detail and colours, interesting angle and "prey." and BG is very complimentary.
As noted, the whites are hot, and the image - to me - needs some CW rotation to level it. I know the beach may have been slanted a little, but the bird seems off- balance as is.
Looking forward to more of your images!
Sandy

Hey Nick,
Nice post. You have a very intrigueing image here. The blacks have lots of detail although there are a couple of hot areas in the whites that you can probably recover. The dark sand really sets this image off for me....much preferable to a white sand beach and the fact that it's playing with a clam is the icing on the cake. Great eye contact and really pleasing oof background. Remember, you can post a larger version for a better critique and a closer look at the details although it looks like you nailed this one. Really, really nice Nick. Look forward to seeing more of your stuff. :toast:

Hello Nick and welcome.
This image ticks all the boxes for me as presented the clam tops it off.

Nick a great shot. I disagree with the comments about the whites being too hot. I did a Threshold on this image and there are only 4 pixels over 255 and they are on the clam. The whites look white as they should. Overall a tough exposure of a basically black an white bird handled very well IMO. I also do not think this necessarly needs rotation. Beaches slope and some slope a lot. Given the way the water is draining back off the beach in the BG, making it level would not look right to me. A great shot as posted.

Great first post Nick!!! Welcome to NPN!

Love the determined look on this birds face. Exposure looks tricky, you did very well handling the blacks and whites.
