Fall Blur

by Jimmy Gekas

Gallery: LandscapePosted September 1, 2011426 views27 comments
I revisited some of my images from fall of last year, and while the trip was quite the adventure for me, the photography just wasn't all that great, imho. My 4runner accident really put everything into perspective, but the photography was all a blur to me at that point.

Yeah, this has been done before, but I thought I'd give it a shot with aspens. Tilt shift lens shifted down as the exposure was made.

I like everything about this! The muted color palette, foreground trees providing a strong sense of verticality, and the blur. Beautiful abstract. It's probably a small consolation, but the story and photos about your accident on your web site reminded me to take it easy in my 4Runner on those Utah and Colorado dirt roads. :toast:

I am not one for in-camera motion images, but this one is about as good as they get.

You should give William Neill some lessons.

I'm usually not a big fan of these blurred images, but how can you not love the colors in this??? Very painterly - super work Jimmy. Let's not have a repeat of last fall's accident this year!

Just excellent in every respect. About as good as it gets in the "motion blur" genre of landscape photography.

Yes, done before, but none better than this. A very strong comp and the technique used to perfection. :toast:

Very nice colors and texture. A pleasure to view. Could also have been posted in the photo art forum.

I think the color combination makes this one really special. It's so calming and optimistic and I can never get tired of looking at these panning shots.

Works for me. Never heard of that technique...does it produce a much different result than hand-panning? Good work

Jimmy,

Beautiful color and a great application of the blur technique. Even the strong light and luminosity works to the advantage here.

Although we haven't been enforcing it too much and we don't get a whole lot of these, I thought I would just mention that I believe that Photo Art would be a better suited gallery for this and motion blur images in general. Not a big deal.

It's a great image, perfectly executed.

Sure it's an often tried technique, but it's all come together beautifully here, Jimmy. Love the limited golden palette and the design of three. Very artistic and dreamy.

This is nice light, Jimmy. Those three strong foreground threes make a nice entry point to the rest of the scene.

I'm glad it didn't get moved to photo art.
The buttery colors really make this image. :toast:

You're right - the subject is nothing new, but I've rarely seen such a nice rendition of it. It's interesting that both sides of the trunks are almost equally lit. Was this a backlit scene?

Beautiful color here. I find the light to be quite nice as well as it soft and seems to glow. It looks like wrap around light too, as both sides of the boles are illuminated.
