Fog along the San Miguel River, Colorado

As I shot this scene, the fog would alternately get thicker and thinner, creating huge shifts in color from blue to golden. When I saw the aspens on the far mountainside begin to appear, I knew I was seeing something special. Then, as quickly as they appeared, they would fade from view. This cycle repeated itself until the sun finally burned off most of the fog to reveal a crystalline blue Colorado autumn sky.

37 commentsAnsel Adams once said that twelve significant images a year is a good crop for any photographer. I have looked in wonder at many of your images, and to me this is one of those "significant" images!
Simply gorgeous in every way!
Love this one-frame it.

I completely agree with the previous comments. "Special" doesn't quite describe this for me....it's absolutely magical.

And for those who haven't seen it yet,and because Todd is too humble to say it himself, I will. This image was picked as the winner in the CNP (Colorado Nature Photographers.net) Annual Fall Photo Contest
Congrats on that too!. And it was a tough competition too. Lot's of great images!!
I don't really know what to say.I'm going to have to come up with new words to describe your images. Most everyone you have posted I have really liked.

I wonder if this is a successful image. But by the outstanding number of comments I believe it must be. Well done with an awesome feel.
Mind blowing!

"God gave the gift of artists to the world, so that people can dream while they're awake." (Steve Vai, "Under It All") This is the essence of this picture Todd.
