Rays of Light

Wonderful mountain light in the Teton Range, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. This lighting occurred about an hour prior to sunset when the sun dropped behind the Tetons. It was very dramatic light and I've never seen anything quite like it.

Nikon D7000, 80-400mm Nikkor
1/640 sec at f/8, ISO 100

All C&C are appreciated. Please view larger version. I'd like to know what you think about the pure black silhouette. The original file has detail in the mountains, but I pushed the blacks to try to emphasize the light.

The Tetons often times can serve up something grand as you have here Scott. Nice rays. Reminds me of the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Nice WORK.

I think I have seen this more at this location than anywhere else I've been. Always make for a dramatic image, but not easy to translate, and you did that very well here. I like the comp a lot, as well as the graphic silouhette.

I really like this Scott. The graphic lines and light are very striking. Your comp works great as does the silhouette. Very cool!

Scott,

I love this! The strong use of the black, empty space of the silhouette is wonderful here. Typically something occupying such a large amount of real estate in an image I would expect or want more detail. But I think you've identified and played to the strength of this scene and the graphic nature of this is strong and the light is showcased beautifully because of it. Excellent!

I love the results of this silhouette shot with those rays of light.
