We were fortunate enough to find this heron looking for lunch and were thrilled when he made a catch. Another from my trip to Argentina.

Nikon D300s, f5.6, 1/800, ISO 200, 300 plus 2 times teleconverter, tripod.

Thanks for looking and critiques appreciated.

Well done, May! Good comp and detail, good low angle and just enough DOF for a pleasing background and sharpness where it counts. The only off note (explainable, I am sure): where is the water? My guess is this was not quite the moment of catch, but a landing on dry ground to eat.

Great catch May, that was quite an event to witness and photograph. I love the tiger stripes on the underside of the wings.

Philip, we witnessed the capture which was in the same spot a couple of seconds prior. This is a pond which is overrun with vegetation, there is a lot of water under the grasses.

Holly cow May...That's one awesome capture. Never heard of or seen this bird before. It's very striking. Superb detail considering a 2x converter was used. Very nice wing position and good light through out. That's quite a nice looking fish as well. Love the yellow around the eyes and beak. Is this a rare bird for Canada? Where else are they found? Loving this a lot!!!

Oh sweet! Love this one May. May be your best that I have seen. Love the action with great habitat. The sharpness and detail on the bird and the fish is very nice. Fish takes it to the next level for me. Super job.

Terrific image, May. The smaller version does not do this justice. Great wingspread and the intense look of the heron is riveting. :toast:
