Fire On The Mountain

This was taken in early August at mile marker 430 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in western North Carolina. The sun broke through and for about a minute, lit up the clouds in the valley in a surreal color. Hopefully this does it justice.

Canon 5Dii, 24-105mm, ISO 160, f22 (failed to get my starburst), two shot blend to get just a bit of detail in the trees in the foreground.

Please see the larger version for more detail.

Gorgeous, Wick! I know this location well.It must have been an awesome experience. There is a spot of flare near the ridgeline in the llc.

Wick, even though you failed in getting your starburst, you've triumphantly succeeded with everything else in capturing this great moment! :toast:

Superb capture Wick. These sorts of moments never seem to last very long but you were in the right place at the right time with an excellent composition and exposure. Great work.

A beautiful shot, Wick. The light catching the fog is awesome... and such wonderful color. Love the receding mountains into the bg and the diagonal of the fg ridge line.

Wick - I think you've done it justice! Love the sun blasting though the mist in the valley on the right. Glad to see that you didn't open up the shadows too much.
