A few frames earlier than my last post. My wife is an excellent scavenger of old fence posts that make delightful perches.

1DMkIV, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f9, 1/400, iso 640, Av mode with -2/3 compensation. Normal processing in CS4. Cropped to 9.9MP. Taken at 7:14 PM on April 23rd.

I always appreciate your comments and criticisms.

Thanks for looking,

I like this one better than your last post Dennis. I think the bird stands out much better in this image. All the different mosses growing in the fence post is really spectacular as well.

Nice composition and love the catchlight in that eye Dennis... I think the perch gives the image a unique feel.

I think I prefer this one to the previous for the composition. Nice pose on the chicadee, who also seems to like the old fence post.

Really nice Dennis. I love the mosses in the post top and the BG to go along with the sharp bird.

Neat little birds aren't they?? Very nice shot Dennis, certainly better detail than what I've been able to get so far. :)

An extra nice composition, Dennis! I like the perch also. Perhaps it's my monitor requiring calibration again, but I think it could go just a tad brighter.

You did well taking full advantage of this beautiful perch Dennis. I really like this photo too, but I'm not sure I like it better, it has a bit of a different feel. Excellent work

Chickadees are such likable birds! In this shot I think you've really captured many of the reasons why, Dennis: beautiful but not brilliant colors, delicate feather detail, energetic look with a streamlined profile and especially, their tendency to cling to very narrow perches (for very short times!). The moss covered stump provides additional interest beyond the bird too. I find myself studying both. Lovely shot.

That great perch again. Excellent detail in it and in the bird. I love that low late light.

Kudos to both you and your wife! That certainly is a great perch, and the chickadee chose the perfect spot on it to perch.

My wife, on the other hand, doesn't seem to appreciate when I try to set up perches like this in our yard! And I think my neighbors sometimes think I'm nuts when they see what I'm sometimes up to with my camera in the back yard.
