Young Pronghorn, Sunset

Near the end of our Yellowstone trip this spring, I watched as a late thunderstorm cleared in the east and the sun broke through the clouds just above the horizon in the west. I found a nice place to photograph the sunset above Black-tail Ponds. As I was shooting photos of the incredible scene, this young pronghorn buck came into view. I had to change my perspective a bit to include the buck in the photo. I almost had to pinch myself, what an awesome experience to end another great stay in Yellowstone.

Canon Mark IV, 24-105mm @ 44mm, 1/80, f11, ISO 400, manual spot meter off green vegatation -2/3 a stop. Full frame pano crop.

Very nice Ken! The late light on the pronghorn and the color on the dramatic clouds make for a powerful image.

If I hadn't witness scenes and light like this myself, I'd think this had been PS'd to death. The kind of shot that keeps one shooting and a great way to end your trip. Just a real nice photo to view.

This was another one from your trip that caught my eye. Perfect combination of elements and contours, IMO.

The light is really sweet and it makes the pronghorn really pop. Great scene.

Ken, this is a great photo. Looks like the light was a challenge on the Pronghorn, but you handled it well. Congrats :wavey:

Awesome image Ken. I think the best I have seen from your hand! Not only the light is and spectacular, the dark clouds make this extra dramatic and on top of that the composition is very strong. The pano presentation suits this well. The only very small thing that strikes me as a bit awkward are the leaning trees. In a way their skew position on that inclining slop suits the comp nicely, but it is just a bit strange at first glance to see trees grow like that. This is not a nit, juts an observation

Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments about this photo. There is actually very little PS work on this one. Vincent, I did notice the leaning trees while I was shooting the scene and made compositions without the trees in the frame, but I still came back to this one as my favorite of the series. Bill, the pronghorn was in the most intense light of the scene, which seemed to make him glow. I did use some minus exposure compensation to help keep the whites in check.
