I have been very busy of late so haven't found time to post as much as I would want to.

I recently made the switch from using Canon gear to using professional Nikon equipment. I created this image on my first short morning trip with my new kit to a local reserve.

I am off to the Kruger National Park for a well-deserved break on Friday, and cannot wait!

Techs:
Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f4.0 @ 1/1250 SS @ ISO-800
This is just about full frame vertically shot
(check out the larger file for better detail)

Well I already see a major improvement in your work!! (Just kidding, I'm a nikon user.) But seriously, nice shot of this impressive bird. I like the pose and the eye contact he is giving you. Have a good trip to Kruger NP.

Welcome to the "dark side" (black Nikon)

Nice detail here, good pose and eye.
Have a great trip!

And yet another welcome to the dark side!
Good one! The detail and eye contact are great. I like the phlegmatic stance of the ostrich. Looking at one of these eyeball to eyeball, you quickly realize how powerful they are. It is probably thinking, "You don't like me? Tough! Come a little closer!"

Beautiful detail, Morkel and amazing dof for f4, though this is a very big bird> How far away were you?

Well done all respects Morkel. The one foot being in front of the other helps prevent this from appearing too static, which can easily happen with a centered comp like this. Nikon makes some decent stuff.
