Blue sheep Nepal

A close-up of the Himalayan blue sheep, which I photographed near Shey Gompa in Dolpo, Nepal. Earlier this week I posted two individual on a ridge.

This male came walking up from behind a small hill, while I lay down on the the other side.
He was be bit to close for my taste, as it was difficult to get enough space around him in the frame. Because they are quit shy, I didi not dare to chance lenses.

This one is shot with a 500mm. Unfortunately this lens became full with fungi on the inside lenses (tropical rainforest are not the best environments for camera equipment).

The fungi in the 500mm made all images look soft and in some circumstances there are "fancy" reflections to be seen in the images.

So the image is not pin sharp, but it is too expensive to travel back to Nepal now..... wish I could.

Thanks for looking.
Jef

Even with the fungi problem it is still a nice close shot of this rare sheep. The OOF rock or what ever in the LLC does distract some. Thanks for sharing your unique experience.

Hi Jeffry,

Ahhh...fixed focal length lenses - gotta love their sharpness but you can definitely get "hung" with them! As you pointed out, a bit close and (too) tightly framed, but a good bit of documentation of what appears to be a tough-to-photography species. The out-of-focus rock is a bit of a pity - it did distract me somewhat. I hope you were able to resolve the fungus problem on your lens without undo expense.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I never tire of seeing them or the crisp blue of the high altitude sky ! Hope you got you lens fixed. If you ever find yourself in north india and want to see them in big numbers let me know. Its not expensive but it can take a lot of walking at altitude
