Long-Tailed Weasel

My incredible weasel luck continues :jump:

We were both going for the same yellow bellied marmot ! Thanks to the marmot, i had my camera ready and in the right settings

We froze as we met and the moment seemed to last forever. Looking at the exifs, the sighting was a little over 15 seconds. Enough to creep a few steps and take a couple of pics.

It was in an open hill slope inter spread with a few pines at about 3100m (>10000 ft). Taken last weekend in Sequoia Natl Park, California just before sunset.

Nikon D5000, 70-300 VR @ 195mm, f5.6, 1/125s, iso 800, -1/3 ev.

Excellent! Great capture Anand, that's an extremely elusive critter.

Excellent job with the techs Anand! Those beady little eyes really stand out in the composition. Send me some of that luck when you have a minute.

Wow! What a cute creature! I like the the inclusion of the tangled branches and weeds in the image to show the habitat so well.

Incredible is right Anand, considering few people see a wild weasel in their lifetime much less two the same year.
I like the alert pose and the woody environment. Nice capture! :toast:

Hi Anand,

Ahhh...always like to see weasel shots - tough to get! I like your placement of the subject and the vertically-oriented snag on the left works nicely with the subject. Techs look solid as well. Perhaps not the "cleanest" setting - but it is where this guy lives...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I am late to the commentary, Anand, but this is pretty special, given the quick, secretive nature of these guys. How about a vertical crop, eliminating the right half (and that busy, light colored weed...)?
