Taken on the Oregon coast. We spotted the Eagle hunting quite a ways off, but he slowly flew our way, let me take a few photos and then flew off again.

Canon 7D; 100-400 mm @400
1/2000 @f5.6 ISO400

Thanks for looking, comments and suggestions welcome.

Nice composition, Allen and I like the soaring pose. The whites on the head look like they might be a bit hot. If you're shooting in RAW you might be able to bring them down. You can set your camera to show when whites are blown (they flash black in the lcd display). With Bald eagles I've found I have to underexpose by about 2/3 to one full stop to keep from blowing whites. That makes the body rather dark, but for some reason I seem to get better results adding some fill light or bringing the exposure up than I do taming it down.

Hi Allen: Yes, a very nice flight pose for a magnificent bird. As Dennis noted, the whites look a bit bright on the head. There is some pretty obvious halos around the bird from some adjustment made to the blue sky. Not sure what processing was done on the sky, but something looks off with the halos and the sky looks a bit over saturated.

Bald Eagles on sunny days are a challenge to say the least. When the sun hits the head it just explodes and this is a good example as the browns are already quite dark while the head as Dennis stated looks hot. I like the pose, especially the head position where it's intently looking down instead of straight ahead, and the sky is a very nice blue. The one thing I noticed right away when I opened this image was there appears to be a dark shadow around the wings and a white shadow around the tail. Someone else can probably tell you the cause of this.

I like the angle of the bird and the tilt of the head in the photo. I have to agree with the others on the saturation, contrast, sharpening suggestions. I have been humbled many times when trying for eagle flight shots on sunny days, not easy to pull off.

Nice full spread shot. I like the composition with a bit of room left around the bird. Processing issues have already been pointed out by others.
