Incoming Storm

Last weekend brought dramatic storm clouds to both Nevada and Utah; they reminded me more of Winter than summer. I can only hope that they predict an early fall and a cooling of the SW temperatures.

This image was captured in New Harmony, Utah, looking toward Kolob Canyons. I kept hoping that I would be able to capture some dramatic lightening, but alas, I could only hear the rumbling of thunder clouds

D700, f/4, 500mm @ f/8, 1/400s, -1.3 EV, ISO 100, tripod.

Critique and comments welcome.

Carol, I like the contrast with the dark sky, really bringing out the canyon colors here. Nicely done.

Cool shot. You took great advantage of that dramatic light. As for the composition I wish there was a little more of those foreground trees in the bottom. They really add to the scale and drama of the scene.

Looks pretty dramatic, Carol--the dark sky definitely sets off the big cliffs nicely. I wouldn't have thought of it w/o reading the comments, but i think maybe some trees up front to add scale might have been useful. Good to see you again in the gallery! :wavey:

A strong tele-comp with dramatic lighting and peaks. Very well done.
