swallow tail

Swallow tails seemed to be everywhere on a group of butterfly bushes, but few were still for long. Provided a fun time trying out new camera. Taken on the Miller Park Zoo grounds. "A young boy and a woman, who I assumed was his mother, came by as I was taking the photos. The boy was very excited about seeing all of the swallow tails, but his mother pulled him away telling him they were in the zoo to see animals not butterflies" Strange things you hear when taking photos in a zoo!

FIE on that mother! Kids delight in every little thing and should be encouraged..

Nice image! Very tough to catch a b-fly still and with good wing position. The flower head is a bit bright, so I'd darken that a little. Looks like full sun conditions, and that's always hard.

Nice image, John. He gave you a classic wingspread and you did him justice. You never know how much time they will give before flight so F8 was probably best choice. A little wider might have blurred the BG a little nicer.

Beautiful wingspread you caught here John!

Re the mum's attitude: gives new meaning to the expression one step forward two steps back ;^.

Lovely view with the wings full opened and the light passing through the wings. The colors appear just a bit flat on my monitor John, nothing wrong with that effect really, just a different feel. I have to get out and enjoy some butterflies before the season is over.

Nice wingspread John. The centred position like this works well due to the symmetry. I would suggest to darken the brightness of the flower a bit

I love the translucence of the wings. I'd probably darken the very top of the flower just a bit, as others have said.
