Dreamtime Dawn

This was one of the last images I took with my D80 after if fell into the ocean. I was closer in to the water shooting some incoming waves when a big wave knocked over the tripod. I missed grabbing the camera by a whisker before it fell in. Oh well, you live and learn. I took it to our local Nikon repairer and it's going to be a write-off, along with the lens and polarizer, so I guess it's time to upgrade

Dreamtime Beach, Northern New South Wales.

D80 (rip), Sigma 10-20mm (rip) @12mm, f/11. 2 shot blend.

Many thanks for any c&c.

Sucks to hear about your camera, but at least you got a cool final image. What are your plans for an upgrade? Staying with Nikon or moving to Canon?

Very nice lead in with the sand, and that's a gorgeous sky. The cliff on the left could use a small bit of shadow dodging....maybe.

Thanks Nicolaus and Rodney. Nic - I'm interested to see the Nikon D700 replacement (D800?), with a projected 24mp+ sensor and the new processor. I'm sure Canon has a 5DIII in the works too, so it'll be interested to weigh these two up when the time comes. Cheers.

David,

This is really cool, like the low POV. But it sounds like the camera got too up close and personal with nature. Oh well at least the data storage survived the dip. Good luck in getting your new equipment.

Those colors are beautiful, David. The colors of sand and sky are very complementary and make this stand out for me. Sorry about the camera!

Yes, bad news about your camera David. I guess thats one way of getting a new one! I like this picture alot! I think the foreground looks really interesting, and some wonderful light and reflection. Really does look like it served you well right to the last picture.

Well, at least your memory card survived to allow you to salvage this fine image. Very colorful and well-composed. This works very well for me. I love the golden sand.

I like the warmth here. Color balance feels decidedly warm, but this feels right here. Foreground beach feels a bit much, but the striations leading into the frame are nice.

Awesome light and those diagonal lines in the sand draw me into this lovely coastal scene, David. I also like the interplay of warm and cool colors in this image. Fantastic job. Sorry about the equipment; that totally sucks. :frown:
