Believe it or not this is the first time I've photographed a non-breeding plumaged Piping Plover. I had to put up with a lot of gnats but it was worth it.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/8
1/800s
ISO 800
-.33 EC

Cropped to 55%, sharpened using smart sharpen, noise reduction on BG, removed a few OOF objects from the BG in CS5 on 27" iMac

Sure was worth it, Luke. I love the comp here: nicely posed bird, a bit of a reflection, random rocks, almost no horizon, great color. Beautiful combo for a very cute bird!

Great light, especially on the legs - makes them almost glow.
Good DOF choice to render only the bird and a shallow swath of beach in fosus.
Very cool image!

Lovely shot, Luke! All "tiny" Plovers are a treat to see.

Luke,

I think this is delightful. I love how you have the plover small in the frame, it accentuates the small size of the bird. I also love the setting, just where I would expect to see a piping plover. Lovely light, pose, detail and sharpness.
