Haematopus palliatus

I photographed this American Oystercatcher preening on Fort De Soto's north beach. This bird has a "blown" eye, a bit of the pupil shows in the iris. It does not seem to affect the bird's ability to forage for food at all.

D200, handheld, laying in the sand, f7.1, 1/1250, ISI 200, 80-400mm VR at 400mm, 75% of the original frame, natural light.

As always I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques, thank you for looking.

Nice pose. The way you captured the eye and open bill, gives the bird a sense of personality.

I love the head turn, one-legged pose and even the strange "blown" eye here, Mia. It makes for an interesting as well as a beautiful shot.

Mia, your usual excellent exposure, sharpness and composition. What I like is the pose, the way the bill seems to be resting on the birds back.

Wonderful low perspective and the head turn really brings out the red beak against the black feathers. I also like that you can the shadow of the bird in the sand. Very nice detail on the larger version, well done.
