I was contacted last month by Michael Bakich, the senior editor at Astronomy Magazine. They’re producing a 16-page insert for Astronomy (“How to Buy Your First Telescope”) and needed an image of a colorful bird. It will be in their upcoming November issue.
Anyway, one of the last places I thought would have a need for one of my images..I'm not complaining

Well, this photo is certainly "out of this world", sorry couldn't resist. Great composition, I like the foliage distribution and the lighter area behind the birds head, like a halo. What a great pose too. Excellent work Howard!

It is a beautiful bunting Howard, love the natural colors, the pose of the bird, light in the eye and the comp you used. Interesting request from an Astronomy Magazine. Who would have thought?

Howard...I guess we just never know where we will find birds to shoot, and where those shots might end up. Congrats on the selection, and this is surely a colorful bird.

sweet, Howard. I really like your comp, with the nice line of the branch and pose of the bird. I like the setting and agree that the paler bg around the head works quite nicely. Congrats on the sale!

Good for you Howard. I like the crouching pose, the natural colors and the way the bird is isoloated from most of the leaves. A very nice image.
