Red-tailed Hawk hunting vole in a snowy field. Caught one and I was prepared for him to fly past me, but he turned and flew off across the field. I managed to get a little bit of his eye peeking out under his wing tip and his red tail. Wild bird not baited. Nikon D300s with 300mm f2.8 and 1.4tc. ISO-400, f6.3, S-1/1250. Thanks- Ray

Great capture with excellent sharpness and the vole in it's beak.

This looks like a winner to me. I like everything about it. The bird looks strongly lit while the rest of the image looks like subdued light. Not sure how it all happened, but it is a success.

In addition to agreeing with what Robert and Mark said, I love the soft colors in the background. And that lovely tail fan! This is gorgeous!

Thank you all for the comments, I really appreciate it. It was a little overcast but the ground was covered in snow and helped light the underside of the wing, thanks again- Ray

Great work Ray! Nice detail and the bird stands out well against this soft BG..and the BG gives a good sense of place/habitat too, so much better than just sky of course.
Like that spread tail and the prey takes it over the top :toast:

Really nice detail and a "different" pose - sharp wing and tail, and the prey is great.
This shows that WC images can be excellent images in themselves.
Well-done!
