The splendor of Israel lies slain on your heights.
Oh how the mighty have fallen!

When I came upon this scene along the Tioga Pass road in Yosemite a couple of years ago this passage immediately came to mind. King David lamented the death of his dearest friend Jonathan and Jonathan's father King Saul in battle. The live trees reminded me of comrades standing over a mighty fallen warrior. All comments welcome.>=))>

Excellent subject Bill. I like the composition with large trunk in the front. Well done.

I like the strong colors and shapes. I also like how it doesn't feel cluttered even though there are so many parts.

Interesting Bill. For me this one is more Jonah 2:9. I immediately imagine the ribs of a whale. Superb composition and it's really good to see a blue sky. Like Gary's last post, this image is full of associations.

A lovely photo in the strongest light. Well done, Bill!

When David first learned of the death of Saul, from the man who killed him, he ordered that man killed. A tragedy all around! Strong stuff!

Aptly titled and very nicely quoted & portrayed Bill. I have also enjoyed your garden tour a lot - even if I have not been great at posting on each of them.

A wonderful story to go with the image. Looks like Saul fell on a lot of swords.
Beautiful color and light. The comp works great with the lines crossing.

Bill:
This is a giant tree! Even the limbs are massive. Nice title and analogy.

Like the blue sky (poloriser used?) which sadly is a rare sight where I am nowadays.

The strong light and deep shadows actually enhance the drama. The color of the sky is striking and the living trees a nice foil for the fallen giant. The title and quote add a lot to the strength of this image.

A real compositional winner in my opinion Bill. The broken branches leading for the live trees make this for me.
