I just joined NPN and I'd love to learn landscape photography. Most of my experience is with macro/close-up. Please feel free to rip this to pieces! I know I probably should have included some interesting foreground, and I really have trouble figuring out where to focus. Any comments and/or critiques would be greatly appreciated!

Nice to see you in Landscape, David. I'm pretty new myself but I think the rule of thumb is to focus about 1/3 of the way into your landscape. Don't worry, though, there are lots of topnotch pros here who will give you all the help and info you ask for. This is a really nice image. IMO the highlights on the midground foliage are a little too bright but it might just be my eyes. Look forward to seeing more from you.

As you already mentioned, I would like to see a little more foreground with those great grasses on the left - I think it would anchor the scene a little more. I don't know if it would have been possible to compose to eliminate the tree branches on the left as well in order to let us see more of the mountain peak. Sometimes you're limited by the geography and have to work with what you have. I do like the light, and the reflection is really nice. My best advice is to just keep trying and shoot LOTS of photos, because that's the fun part anyway!

I like the image, nice and peaceful. Take a look at cropping out the grass on the bottom, while it does remove some of the reflection it does IMHO make for a cleaner foreground. Thanks for sharing and welcome to NPN.

This is a gorgeous lake David. The water sure was still and it looked like an incredible day. I think your highlights and processing look good. My only suggestion is in the future if possible, try to simply your composition by making sure the sides of your frame are clean and free from distracting elements. Hopefully you understand what I am talking about, but if not shoot me an email and I'd be happy to articulate. Welcome to NPN! I am glad to get to know you.
