One of the aspects of nature photography I love is that it encourages me to learn. I can't take a photo of anything without investigating what species it is, and learn about its habits, etc. along the way.

Dragonflies were all just dragonflies before I started photographing them.

Nikon D300; 300mm; f7.1@ 1/1000th, ISO 400; HH;approx. 60%FF.

All comments most welcome, especially concerning composition.

Thanks for looking!

Contrast, color, exposure, detail, and BG all come together here for a very pleasing frame Tom.
I might consider a clone of the seed head bottom left is all.
Well done! :toast:

Great detail, light & color. I would consider cropping at least 1/3 off the bottom & perhaps cloning out seed head on the right. Good background also.

Very nice shot, Tom. Ilike the classic pose and in particular the BG, that is full of colours but not distracting.
I can understand very well what you say about photography and learning.
Congrats

Tom:
Nice DF on a nice perch and beautiful bg. Lovely capture. I might consider cropping the left to remove the seedhead.
