Surrender to morning

by Morris McClung

Gallery: LandscapePosted July 22, 2011309 views18 comments
While experiencing this morning recently, it was so quiet I almost believed I was the only person left. Not that I want to be, but after the work weeks I've been enduring lately, it was edifying to be here on this morning. I found myself surrendering to it's charm.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Gorgeous and tranquil image Morris. The light and color are wonderful IMO. Wish I was there!

Very pretty Morris! Almost reminds me of a scene from the Smokies.

What a view! I love the layers and the distant colors are beautiful. The misty look made for a wonderful mood. A pano of the top would be interesting as a whole different picture, but I really enjoy seeing the whole view here. Nice work Morris.

Wow. Morris Im with ya. I wish I could retreat to such a place at the end of the week. Your soul knew very well of the peacefulness of this morning. The calming light and layered mountains make the comp stand out.
Great work Morris

Morris, I enjoy the outstanding lighting and the specific atmosphere of your image. The small lakes lead me into the distance and counteract the vanishing layers in the upper part aptly for me.

I love the light in the upper frame of the image, Morris. The small lake does work well as a lead in. That having been said, the shadowed area does take up a rather large part of the image. Do you perhaps have a shot where some light streams into the valley? Nicely done.

From up on Evans, i presume. Nice moody shot, Morris...i like it, even with all the shadows on the right. WHen i screen crop for a pano of the top, it does feel more balanced. I could see this working best as part of a series (the surrender series perhaps...). May be the clouds fooling me, but based on the back ridgeline it may need a slight rotation.

This is lovely Morris. I find myself being drawn in to the image, and especially like the color gradient.

This is beautiful, Morris. I can definitely relate to what you mention about enduring difficult work weeks. I was doing the same thing earlier this year while working long hours and enduring stress at work. It's great to have something like this to help put things back into perspective.

I like all of the layers topped off with the frosting of such a beautiful sunset!!

Lovely layers of color. I like the shadows on the left because, to me, they hint at the silence of those wooded slopes . I did struggle a bit deciding if it was a lake or a lingering snowbank at the foot of the nearest slope. Either way, it works for me. Beautiful image

Real nice, pleasant shot of this tranquil scene. Looking at the image I get just the feeling you describe in your narrative. Very fine work.
