The Exorcist?

Well.... Not really, just a full head shake from an elegant tern. After they dive into the water looking for fish, they always come up and within a few seconds, shake. Capturing the complete head shake was something I wanted and was happy to get this result with the tern a little below me and coming towards me. A very fast shutter speed is needed to maintain sharpness as the shake of the head (and body) is really fast.

Be sure to check out the larger image as much more detail and water drops are clear.

Techs:

Canon 7D
500mm
1/3200 @ f/7.1
ISO 320
Manual Metering
Handheld
90% of Full Frame

wow! fantastic execution of a plan here, Keith! I love all the water drops, especially the curved lines coming off the bill. the pose is great--I've never seen this before and it's very sharp--quite an accomplishment on what I'm sure is *very* fast action. 90% of FF too! great title too. thanks for posting this. :toast:

Excellent! I have not been successful getting the shake - yet.
Tack-sharp, great pose and wing position, and perfect water drops.

Great catch. I just saw this behavior a couple of weeks ago, but yours is so much sharper. Well done.

That's a pretty neat capture, Keith.....and the title is appropriate. With one light and one dark wing, you could almost look at it like they were placed in opposite directions on the body, too....... Fun action....thanks for posting.
