A Big Winter
by Rudy Ruberti
The Sierras received huge amounts of snow this past winter and much of the high country is still buried. This was taken in February off of the Mammoth Scenic Loop, near Mammoth Lakes, CA. Nearby Mammoth Mountain received over 50 feet of snow and their based depth was well over 20 feet for much of the season, which lasted until the 4th of July. About a foot of new snow had accumulated on the road since the last time the plows went through and it was still coming down hard. I saw this small tree about 200 yards off the road and had to walk through waist deep snow to get near it. I used a higher ISO/faster shutter to try to "freeze" the snow in the air, but it was getting late in the afternoon and the light was fading, so I needed up with streaks instead of flakes.
Thanks and comments welcome,
Rudy
