Horsetail--fertile stems
by Nancy Lea Sandy
(Equisetum arvense)
Horsetail has dimorphic stems. These are the fertile, cone bearing stems that appear first and are followed by feathery sterile stems later in the spring. Comments and suggestions welcomed. Thanks for looking.
