Silver washed Fritillaries mating.
I hate to intrude on private moments but my son found these just outside the garden .he actually rang me up to tell me ! (200 yards away- he could have shouted.
I didn't realise the wonderful subtle coulours on the undersides of these as I,ve spent too much time looking at the tops.!

Please look at the biggie.

I do like it John, you have captured the shimmer very nicely.

that's nice John, I like the way it's framed by the leaves. The large version does show the silver underside very well.

I've been looking for these myself recently at a local 'hotspot'. Still no luck

Great looking image, the silvery green sheen coming from the underwing looks very good, and as already mentioned the butterflies are nicely framed.

I never got on with my Sigma 150mm and chopped it in, kinda wish I'd have hung onto it now I have gotten the macro bug again.

Thanks :toast:
Andy- I was the same at first. I,d always been used to getting close with a 50 mm with a 4X close up on ! All of a sudden it seemed to come together. Now I love it !!

Another nice shot John; I've only ever seen these in France. I don't think I could go back to anything shorter than 150 for macro work; the extra working distance really helps with live subjects. In fact, I often use my 300 f4 with an ancient PN11 tube for leps and dragons.

That 150mm really is delivering the goods for you, John. The detail on the large version is superb.

I'd love to get a shot of these with my new 3D camera. Excellent in 2D as well.
