Cedar Canyon with Clouds

I was at Cedar Canyon again Friday late in the afternoon. I climbed up some of the buttes to get a shot from a different angle. The clouds started rolling in and blocking the sun, so there was not going to be a great sunset light. This is facing east and there was enough light coming through to give just a little color to the eastern horizon and the clouds added interest. This is a combination of two images for exposure. I am not very artistic and some times I what looks good in a image to me doesn't look good to others with a more artistic I. I would really like some opinions on does this work or how could I improve it. Thanks for your input.

Hi Richard, I enjoy these views you show us. The large version here looks very nice to me, it shows off the foreground much better, and the expansive view is great. I like the distant light and the clouds too. The horizon looks a little tilted or maybe bowed from the wide angle, otherwise very nice.

Comp is good with the low horizon. My thought might be to try and process some better light to the trees and surrounding ground.

Great clouds and I like Tony's suggestion. And it is an excellent comp as he stated.

What an expansive view! I'm not crazy about the cut off foreground trees, and the comp you chose of the land doesn't really lead into the scene very well. Ideally, I would be looking for a view where the pattern of the trees provides a guide for the eyes toward the background - sometimes it can be tough! If not possible, then I might crop it down to just a sliver of land to make it more about the sky. Also, the sky color seems funky to me - deep blue down to bright cyan just looks 'off'.

Hi Richard - Compared to your last version of this location, I think that this image is a significant improvement - nice work. The exposure seems more well-balanced and natural. I do not mind the trees in the foreground for this image, but agree with Doug that you could also try some compositions that include some leading lines. The beautiful clouds add a lot of interest, as well.

Someday, I'm going to go to Cedar Canyon. Your sky in this view is stellar. I really like the expansive view and the distances it implies but the fg light and color seems a little flat in the small version. In your large version it seems to compete better and the entire image seems much better balanced. Nice work
