Another one I,m affraid, but not done much else bird wise with working on these . All three young are flying around the farm now so I,ve about done.
The last shot of the evening in shade in front of sunlight on a red brick drying barn wall in the farm area where these are nesting. The dark blobs are the ventilation holes where bricks have been left out for ventilation.
D7000 Sigma 100-300 mm

levels Paint Shop Pro.
About full frame.
Thanks for your comments on my recent stuff too by the way.

Wonderful portrait of the burrowing owl. I like the perch, stare and pose. I'm not keen on the background. I understand what it is from your description, but I find it really draws my eyes away from the subject.

I like the detail you managed to get in this at 1/80 John! I also think the dark spots in the BG are a tiny bit distracting, but not too bad. I might however, move this a bit off center more for comp.
Also, I know Keith is calling this a Burrowing Owl, but you being from the UK, not sure it is? Or burrowing owls here don't have near that many feathers on the legs. But I am not familiar with UK owl species at all.

Wonderful image of the juvenile John. I am not crazy about the background but sometimes it is what it is.

Thanks all- yes the barn wall is a problem but its the only spot in the open where the bird was perching at that time. It is in fact the female Little Owl. Athene noctua (related to your burrowing job I think )

Excellent shot of the owl, John, but I'm afraid I find the strong pattern from the barn a bit distracting.
