Thats a superb macro shot, John. The BG is spot on and really helps show off those fantastic antennae. No nits and a quality piece of work.
Is this a LEPTURA RUBRA ( female ) ?

Cracking image John ! Amazing DOF and so sharp. I'm seeing a couple of horizontal lines above the left antenna which would be worth taking out.

Nicely done John. I think I'd prefer more of a portrait format rather than the almost square crop here, but I like the soft light. It's never easy getting the antennae of these in focus!

Superb John. I'm not a big fan of square/squareish formats but it does suit this one. Great detail and the contrasting background really makes the insect stand out.

Thanks all. I,m affraid I have to eat my words somewhat !
I always lived on the idea that with photography- particularly with nature subjects, - that equipment didn't really matter. mainly because I could and still can ,only afford reasonable gear. I realise now that it does make a difference. The D7000 at £820 has made the biggest difference to my photography imaginable. There are still cameras out there and lenses costing many times more but it will do me for a while. I have seen many changes, and the digital era has made things so much easier it is unbelievable.
Thanks for all your comments. They really are appreciated.

Superb shot John - I have used the Sigma 150 for a few years now and love it; I too have been amazed at the quality of the D7000, which is both cheaper and much better than the D300 that I had before.
