Great low angle really accentuates the bird. Are you BELOW sea level here? Nice detail in the black and separation of the eye.

Angela,

Thanks for all the kind words about my recent Tern photos. No, I'm firmly on land - the top of the island is about 4 feet above high tide - so for this photo I was lying at about 3 feet above...

Luke,

Great picture, no surprise there and it sure shows attitude. How did you get the foreground blurry like it is and the bird in perfect focus? What this on the island with your kayak?

Wonderful exposure for those whites and I really like the low angle and your choice of composition Luke :^) The in-no-mood-for-taking-prisoners expression is a great bonus ;^)

Much as I like the low angle, I have to say that the blurred foreground is a little too distracting for my taste, it kind of gives it an almost artificial processing feel, even though I'm sure this wasn't a result of overzealous work in post-processing ;^)

Luke, I love the background here. Sharpness looks good on all but the tail (which isn't an issue IMO). I like your composition and the whites look to be well exposed. Your low angle works great on the bird, though I'm less fond of the OOF foreground.

The great low angle makes this shot for me. Well done.

Beautiful light and great techs. The details in the tern are superb. I love the BG and must admit that I too find the FG distracting.

Beautiful job on the tern, Luke. In this case, I think you might have wanted to get a little higher. The oof beach in the foreground is a bit distracting to my eye.

Another nice tern image Luke. I like the low angle, but I do find myself wishing for the feet to be visible and less OOF FG...but really it is a small nit, because overall the image is very pleasing. nice light, color and exposure.

I agree with all the others, Luke. Super pose, perfect bg. fg isn't ideal but isn't major as the rest is so nice.
