Ghost Gum

I'm still working on my Australia/Northern Territory images from fall/spring 2009. The area around Alice Springs is a beautiful and stunning place. This is one of the largest existing ghost gums and can be found in the eastern McDonnell Ranges in Trephina Nature Park.
It's a mid day shot and the light was hars but i like the strong colors contrast (blue/white).

Thanks for any comments and thoughts.

You did quite well with this shot depsite the somewhat strong light. I like the strong diagonal element of the main trunk and the fine curving lines of the branches above. Interesting and effective shot.

The deep blue behind this is perfect Bill. Beautiful. I think the patterns you isolated and the way the trunk leads into the scene works very well. Nice one!

This has a very 'strong' feel to it. I think you succeeded quite nicely.

I would agree that you did a nice job with the harsh light. My eye is drawn to the brightest spot in the middle of the trunk. Otherwise, the diagonal of the tree against the blue sky is quite interesting. This looks like a really interesting place. Nice work, Bill.

Bill,

These are fun and you've crafted this one wonderfully. A great subject to go after in mid day light like you mentioned. I too like the deep blue of the sky contrasted with the starkness of the tree. Great form and the chaotic lines and curves fill out the frame perfectly. This is quite excellent.

Lovely Gum, really graphic image Bill. This image really brings me some very fond memories of the West MacDonnell ranges...going through the Finke riverbed with our 4x4 camper and going with the rhythm of the sunrises and sunsets is something that will always stay with me...aaaahhhh, you did it again!! :)
