Into the Prism

I'm on the road for 3 weeks going all around the Western US shooting photos and enjoying this beautiful country. I'm in Yellowstone right now and had a couple hours of down time so I decided to post this image from last night's shoot at the Grand Prismatic Spring.

The light was just incredible as it danced above the fiery colors of the thermal pool.

Note: processing done on my old laptop's screen. I'll double check the contrast and saturation when I get home to my calibrated monitor.

Thanks for the feedback!

Minor post processing done using Tony Kuyper's masks

I like the lead in lines and atmospherics Aaron. The reflected cloud in the center is also very nice. Color looks fine on my calibrated monitor but I have never visited Yellowstone.

Nice composition with lines complementing each other between FG and the sky. I like how the fog in the middle divides these sets of lines. Color looks fine.

Maybe it's just me, but the orange and the steam in this image and the black mounds in back gives it a very volcanic feel. The reflections from the water obviously establishes a different reality, but my initial thoughts on seeing the image were different than the final thoughts. That's a fun transition an easy and the comp and light here makes it an enjoyable process.

Nice composition. Colors look fine on my calibrated monitor, too.

Aaron,

Terrific! I really like how the foreground lines pull the eye in to the scene. The rising mist/fog enhances and confirms the mood of the place and you've got an excellent and complimentary sky. A personal choice of course, but I think you have some leeway to bump the saturation a little; at least in the spring area and the reds. The sky is quite good the way it is. Well done.

Nice Aaron. As Eva said, lines and atmosphere. I agree with Lon; a small sat bump would make it a little richer.

Cool! I really like the converging lines here. Seems a bit soft to me, but that could be the mist. nice shot!
