Stumpy

Sugar Land, TX June 2011

D3. ISO 1000. 300/2.8 f4 1/8000s. Gitzo with Wimberly head. Natural Light. About 30% FF

I had 2 cardinal pairs. 1 female was eaten last week by the hawk as I posted. The remaining female seems happily wed to the cardinal male with one leg pictured here. He seems to suffer not from his affliction.

He kind of reminds me of Dorothy Hamill doing the "flying camel" ice skating move.

Great pose and detail in the bird. Maybe just a tad darker. The background looks a little light.

Angela, Great light, cute pose and super sharp detail. Just as i was going to suggest less room on top You changed it right before my eyes. Pretty cool telepathy! :toast:

Another splendid shot Angela! Couldn't figure out what that was sticking out of the Cardinal's rear until I read what you wrote, good to know he's apparently not suffering too much by this affliction ;^)

I also had to do a quick net search to fully appreciate your comparison to Dorothy's "flying camel", and happy that I did - LOL :^)

Like the bird and BG Angela. Always amazing to see what birds can survive as far as injuries go. I am sure this guy will do fine given he has made it past the initial trauma.

Shame about the leg- but a good shot. Some would have cloned it out and said not a word

Looks like you sure have plenty of drama associated with your cardinals, Angela. It's so interesting to be reminded that life "as free as a bird" can be pretty tough!! This fellow sure appears alert and in good shape except for the leg. Lovely detail and a beautiful perch.

Odd that we both posted "Stumpy" at the same time, yours looks so much more graceful than mine:smile:
Unique shot Angela, great PP. Not a bit of noise visible at ISO 1000.

Nice capture of this Dorothy Hamil wanna be. I often see one legged birds and wonder how they lose their legs.
