Bashful

Taken last Thursday shortly after my last post. Same perch, different bird. I love the pose in this one and the way the late evening light worked with an inordinately yellow goldfinch.

1DMkIV, 500mm f4 & 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f8, 1/1600, iso 500, Av mode with -2/3 compensation. This is a substantial crop-only 4.2 MP remaining after the crop. Normal processing in CS4. Taken at 7:45 pm on June 16th.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis,

Beautiful Goldfinch in nice warm light. They are always a beautiful subject and I like the pose and the little feet on the tip of the perch. Only possible suggestion would be to perhaps tone down the brightness of the perch.

Very cute pose in this little fellow.
Nice detail in the bird and love the little feet.
I'd also darken the perch so it doesn't compete with the great colours of the finch.
Any chance for a tighter crop so you could get rid of some of the perch? It's a lot of perch for one liitle bird..
Nice!
Sandy

A lovely pose with that head turned and the bird at the peak of the perch. A bit centered but I think it works here.

Lovely warm light and a luminescent Goldfinch. I agree with Sandy that you could improve the shot by selectively darkening the perch/stump just a bit so it doesn't distract from the very cute bird pose. Spot on techs Dennis; a very good photo.

The colours and textures are wonderful Dennis, though it's the inquisitive pose you've managed to capture that has me smiling ear to ear, nice shot and thanks for sharing :^)

Very pretty image. The pose is great. I also think a tighter crop that minimizes the size of the perch might help to accentuate the finch. Looks like the crop is holding up very well.

I like the comp Dennis. As this is a substantial crop already, I would probably leave this as posted if it were mine. The larger version shows the large crop a bit, but it still looks really nice.

Beautiful image, Dennis. The bird pose steals the show, but you have done a great job on sharpness and techs.
