Diamond-backed Terrapin

Another image of the female* terrapin heading back to the water.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH from Kayak
f/7.1
1/640s
ISO 640
-.33 EC

Almost full frame (slight crop to straighten the image), sharpened using Smart Sharpen and minor clone in CS5 on 27" imac

*It's assumed it's a female because it's nesting time and the carapace was covered in sand which would occur during egg laying/nest creation.

Judging by her colours, if she wasn't moving I guess she's be very difficult to see at any distance; well spotted Luke :^)

Not sure about the composition though; seems like the subject is a little too centered.

Hey Luke,

Cool encounter and I'm guessing your guess about the gender of this terrapin is probably right - so that must give us about a 50% chance of being right??

Image sharpness and exposure look good here. I'm with Ashley re: the centered composition (at least on the vertical axis - it's obviously off-centre horizontally). Personally, I'd argue for removing some foreground to "ground" the subject and to reduce the prominence of those 3 different focus bands (OOF foreground, sharp mid-ground, and OOF background). But that's just me...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this one...
