2nd Attempt at 2nd Beach

Hello,

This is a Sunrise shot at 2nd beach along the Olympic coast in May. The first time I was here the tide was a little high and these pools around the rocks were still getting some fresh sea water with every few sets of waves. I certainly liked the sky this next day after the previous day's storm cleared.

I am always grateful for any comments or criticisms.

Thank you,

This is really nice, Shaun. The blues might pop a bit too much for some tastes but I like the strong distinction from their surroundings. Would probably crop out that small white cloud on the upper/left edge.

This is without a doubt one of the best coastal images I have seen in a long time. The blue reflections in the pool and the wonderful subtle hues in the sky really set it apart. Absolutely superb.

Hi Shaun - This is a beautiful and elegant composition. Really nice work. I agree with Marc about a small crop for the white cloud and possibly toning down the blues in the sky a bit (the reflection looks great to me).

Here is a version with the cloud cropped out and the blues toned down a bit with a selective color layer adjustment. For some reason my blues tend to shift when I compress to an SRGB JPEG.

Thank you everyone for the comments and help. :)

Super composition. The crop from the sky has given your photograph a better balanced. Great shot Shaun.

I would be tempted (for final print) to darken everything down 1/6 of a stop except for the pool and sky; just for a hint more mystery. None-the-less, an amazing shot! I would call this "The Pool" after the Iron Maiden song "Still Life". You gotta read these lyrics. Maybe corny, but IMO intriguing ....

Well I can honestly say I did not expect any response that took advantage of Iron Maiden lyrics..but if "Eddie the Ead" approves then I am cool with it. Thanks for the comment Matt.

Killer work here Shaun. Your composition is excellent on this, and the crop suggestion was an excellent one from Marc. I am really loving the colors and the clouds here. The suggestion for slightly darkening might be worth playing with, but that is totally a personal taste thing. Hang this one up my friend. :toast:

Beautiful shot. The separation between the foreground pool and the sea works well and there's lots of interesting elements that support the drama of the pool.

I like it, Shaun. It maybe feels a bit over-exposed but you've got some great elements. Love of the foreground pond is a perfect mirror.

Nicely captured (the second one, with toned down blues).

Excellent composition and beautiful pastel colors! Seems too bright too me. Perhaps darken it a bit? The blues might also be a bit oversaturated. Oh, OK, now I see the repost! Blues look better. Still too bright for my tastes though. Otherwise a fantastic shot! :toast:
