Seeing [now less] Yellow

Yellow Flag Iris is a European endemic that escapes from cultivation to become an invasive species here in North America. Unfortunately it can crowd out native plants and be hard to remove. It's quite photogenic though, and can really put on a show when blooming. This was taken along the edge of Ice House Lake in the Columbia River Gorge.

I love the stunning foreground in this image, John, and how it leads into the background forest. The raindrops greatly add to the image. The large view shows excellent color and detail in the background. Great location find.

superbly blended and composed. i would have loved to have seen more of the leaves with the drops. not sure if my eyes are deceiving me (and it's late so it's possible) but there appears to be a yellow cast somewhere around the center of the image

Beautiful image. Great depth and the yellows really stand out amid all the green.

John, I think your comp is superb in this one and those yellow blooms are really lovely. I am wondering if the image is just slightly too warm? Probably a matter of taste. In any event, nice work!

I feel like I am at the edge of the lake, smelling the flowers and taking in the scene. Very peaceful and tranquil image.

So deceiving they are. Quite beautiful though and I think you captured them perfectly John.
Love the dappled water drops and hazy mood.
Nicely captured

Fantastic comp John. There is a slight yellow cast in the greens, but then again, a matter of taste and I like it. I love the wide angle perspective. I might be tempted to crop out the sky, but again, a matter of taste. A crop does seem to focus more on those beautiful yellow flowers and grasses. Enjoyable spring scene for sure.

One of the advantages of the crop factor camera is that you can get very close to the subject with that super wide lens without having to do fancy DOF blending. Superbly executed image.

John this is quite nice. Lovely colors, and that flower near the bottom is very intriguing.

Really very nicely done, especially that the sky caps the image without being too bright to steal attention away from the flowers.

Thanks for the feedback! Especially about the yellow. To a certain extent, it was by choice (thus the title), but in looking back at the file the blue channel blocked up a bit when I moved back to rgb from lab and it went a little farther than I had intended. Here's a less yellow version.

Nicely captured John. The FG is really sweet. I wish the BG had a little more to offer comp-wise, but still nice.

Really nice John. Excellent depth and the composition is great. The city I work for has been working hard to keep these from taking over the local lake. Too bad, I had planned on photographing some first. :toast:

Very impressive blending John. Also, a very natural rendering of the scene. I could see changing the color balance to about about +7 in the mids in the blue/yellow channel. The touch of grey sky adds some much needed breathing room. Really well done.

Michael

A beautiful shot, John. Your dof hand blend looks invisible, and the general processing looks excellent. A wonderful composition... I really like the intimacy of the fg flowers. I don't mind the original version with the cast... gives it a further warm, soft glow to the mood. Beautiful work.
