On the Road to Denali

In 1983 I ended up at this location when the National Park bus got a flat tire and the driver had to change it. Another older image from Denali (then Mt McKinley NP). This was taken with my Mamiya 645 and Verichrome II. Hope the color balance works here. BTW - For both my solo trips to Alaska in 1982 and 1983 there was never any sun or spectacular light. I never saw Denali except for a brief, distant glimpse from Fairbanks, AK.

Thanks for looking and for and comments and critiques which are always welcome and appreciated.

Thanks Daniel. Glad to see you are back. Hope all is well with you as well. I definitely want to revisit this place myself to show my family. Maybe next year.

Eva the greens are really lovely. I think the image works well as presented, but could also see a crop off the top of the sky. If you are planning on printing, I'd lighten up the overall image a bit. Dramatic scenery for sure.

Hey that's a very nice looking view Eva.
The composition is well balanced the line of the river leads back out of the frame which is unfortunate
but otherwise its nicely balanced with tones and texture showing through in the flattish light.

Nice.

Such majesty these Alaskan vistas have. This view seems to go on forever. I too like the crop idea.

What a great place for a flat tire! Anything to extend the time in Denali has to be a big plus. Beautiful shot.

This is a beautiful shot and I can appreciate the challenges in dealing with the contrast in the original shot and the extra processing difficulties in getting the colors right in the scan. I like that you managed to hold the details in the clouds and the snow covered peaks without loosing the foreground.

Eva,

I was there in 1993 for 3 or 4 days at Wonder Lake. I think we got to see "the mountain" for a total of 4 hours. Fortunately for a couple of those hours we were driving in and had the full view from the Eilsen? visitor's center. Once we got to Wonder lake, it rained for like 23 straight hours.... ;-( Anyway........ you didn't post this to hear me reminisce.

A very nice landscape from there considering the conditions. I like the braided and meandering river as well as the nice colors along the foothills above the tundra. The only suggestion I have would be to pull back on the blues in the shadows a little bit. Otherwise this looks like it scanned up pretty nice and you did well with any color correction and processing.

Certainly a nice image of an inspiring landscape. The composition bugs me just slightly, with the river weaving in and out on the west side of the frame. But wow, those mountains really make it easy to look past that and just enjoy the classic view.
