Its been awhile since I've posted. I've felt somewhat uninspired both to shoot and process. However this morning I went on a tour of Chrissy's garden and was awed by the variety of stuff we have growing. I've decided to post a series of shots of the more spectacular as well as the more mundane blooms that make up the foundation of the garden and are often responsible for the visits from butterflies and hummingbirds. While a number of these images may be somewhat documentary I still strove to capture each in a good light.

This peppermint hibiscus is about the size of a pie plate, thus the title. The plant is a prolific bloomer as you might note from the wider angle view provided in the first comment. The bees love it and strike early seeking pollen. They have to work fast though as the flowers start to close and collapse after about seven or eight hours of opening. All comments welcome. >=))>

Here's a wider view of a couple of the flowers with some of the rest of the plant. Each bloom is about 8 inches across. >=))>

I envy you the garden Bill. Ours is a few pots and urns on a town house porch. Although anything Terri plants seems to grow with the exception of poppies. Farm life growing up, cured me of having much inclination to want to get my hands dirty but as I start to approach retirement that may be changing. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the garden. Maybe I'll get some ideas. Beautiful light and color in both of these.

You have captured this hibiscus superbly Bill. I have never seen this unique bloom, but you have done justice to it.

I tried to determine what flower this was before opening your page. I never would have guessed what it was. These are beautiful and I'm going to try to find some. Thr thumbnail is a real grabber but the large view and full flower shot make this really toothsome. Thanks bill

Bill, I have a whole series on Peppermint on Tulips. Thanks for stealing my show  . This is an absolutely lovely take on the White Hibiscus. Flower by itself is wonderful but its your composition that takes it a notch higher.

Its tough to see them in this pristine condition.

Superb Photo

Nice idea, Bill, to show the full blooms in situ as well as the close-up. Have never seen one of these - it's a lovely variety. Perfect composition and beautifully delicate colouring.

What a beautiful hibiscus very well caught and composed, Bill. Especially love the nice streaks that lead my eyes toward the center of the flower. :toast:

Glad that we will be getting a tour Bill! This is an excellent start. Sorry to hear about the lull in shooting. I hope your mo-jo returns soon!

I feels ya, Bill. My muse left due to inattention, and lack of interest for awhile. I hope she comes back soon! I would say these shots should get the mojo running! Hibiscus are impossible to shoot, I thought. You proved me very wrong. Outstanding images both!

Bill:
Living in a high rise apartment in HK, I am envious of anyone with a garden.
This is a glorious looking hibiscus. When I saw the short pistils on this, my mind immediately think of this as a perfect subject for a scanner. I remember you saying that you would get a scanner this year and its already June.

I havn'e seen this color scheme before and as it is pretty simple it makes for a great image. I like the lines created leading to a nice sharp center. I just saw the repost... verypretty flowers.

Living in a condo we don't have the room to plant so I envy you your gardens. Terrific image and I love the second one. :toast:
