Nod to Spring-Challenge

Even as this Hellebore was drying, it still had a lot of character so I thought of the monthly challenge. I photographed this stem of a Hellebore on very light cream textured mat board with a macro lens in natural light.

In Photoshop I adjusted the brightness and contrast and then added a texture layer called "Carmel Soft" from Flypaper Textures. Blending mode was set at Soft Light at 100% opacity. I wanted to add even more texture so I added a second texture layer called "Assorted Paper Ts-P7" from Shadowhouse Creations. Blending mode was set to Overlay at 76% opacity. That was all the processing this image needed.

The second texture layer added just the look I was going for with this image. I printed the image as a note card on Glossy paper stock and it looks great. Camera is a Nikon D7000, Tamron 90mm macro lens, tripod, natural light.

Any comments or suggestions? All are greatly appreciated.

It does have a lot of character and the composition works well. The limited range of colors and the tonal values work for this subject. I'm not quite as comfortable with the edges...still, a nice image.

Beautiful image but Fall colors, Barbara. I'm fine with the processing. Lovely result.

Thanks everyone for taking a look and your comments.

It's 92 degrees here today. I just got back from shooting in two of our botanical gardens ... what was I thinking? Will have some new images to post for the challenge. Stay cool!

Barbare, I am really fond of this image. Of the mood and the colors and also the special composition and treatment.
It would be terrific to have a small series of the same theme.
Congrats on your WP!

Very nice windblown over-the-hill take. Fine use of textures and color.
