Shot this huge Kalahari male in the early morning light. The early morning light seems to be overpowering in the image. I like the stare in the eyes and the black mane which stands out.

Camera Model Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
Shooting Mode Shutter-Priority AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/2000
Av( Aperture Value ) 4.5
Metering Mode Spot Metering
Exposure Compensation +1
ISO Speed 400
Lens EF500mm f/4L IS USM
Focal Length 500.0mm

Thank you for viewing and yout crits and suggestions are very welcome.

Beautiful subject and real nice low POV you have on it Neal :^)

Assuming the blown highlights wasn't really the effect you were going for, looking at your shooting data I'd say your error was setting - or perhaps having forgotten you had this setting ... been there, done that more than once or twice myself ;^p - the exposure compensation to +1. If anything, you might have been much better off going the same amount in the opposite direction if the light was indeed as harsh as it appears here.

Fine image of a magnificent animal. I wish there was a little more separation of the head from the background.

Beautiful lion image Neal. I like the attentive pose and the bright staring yellow eyes. Though over-exposed it looks to me as if it is still within the limits your camera can handle; I would go back to the RAW file and reduce the exposure on the brightest areas and blend that in.

Thanks for the comments so far. I have toned it down a bit. Trust this works better.

Yep, definite improvement Neal. Only wish I'd been so lucky in recovering as much detail in some of the shots I've greatly overexposed in the past ;^)
