This is a young bat-eared fox poking her head out of the den. We came upon them at the end of a safari day, and they didn't hide! We watched them for a while and moved on. There was another family just about 1/2mi down the road - the only ones we saw on the trip to Tanzania.

Nice action shot and it shows off those ridiculous ears well.

Very cute! i love the tongue's extremely wierd angle  At first in the gallery it confused me, when the picture is small it looks like a griffin's head, that the mythical half lion half eagle animal right?

Margaret,

What a fabulous capture, I am deeply envious. I have tried for a long time to get a reasonable image of one of these but only have a few, none as good as this.

I wish you had posted a larger image, so that I could study it in greater detail. :toast: :toast:

Thanks, everyone. Our guide said these foxes usually hide in their dens and don't stay out for long.

I am new to NPN and wonder just how I post a larger image? Does it replace this one? If someone can tell me I'll post a larger version.

Ahhh one of my favorite animals Margaret, thanks for sharing this! The pose is simply gorgeous and the detail excellent. The catchlight in the eye adds a lot and really draws in the eye of the viewer. I am surprised at how close you managed to get seeing this was shot at 155mm!!! I always need a 500mm lens to get a close shot like this! Excellent capture. :toast:

You can post a larger image in addition to the 720px version. Next time you upload a post you will see an option near the bottom of the page to upload a larger image with maximum dimensions of 1200px on the longest side and 500kb max. file size.

Great attitude in this pose! Nice work. It is a little to bad that the background detail is so busy, but I think you made the right choice with 5.6 to keep all the fox within the focal zone.
