Buck grass

After a fruitless few hours in the hot sun, picking ticks off my trousers, I set off for the car. I have learned from experience and left the 500 on the tripod, just incase. This fellow let me sneak up on him as he was more interested in a passing jogger. Lucky he was in the shade.

ISO400 (pulled to ISO800!), 7D, 500f4 and 1.4Tc.

Well handled exposure and composition!

Looks like a good place for ticks! A second tick check is usually warranted.

Nice image Neil

I like the back ground and the act that the buck is in the shade works for me

By the way, the image of the Roe Deer in the field of pink flowers is absolutely stunning :toast:

Yes, there was one I managed to shoot on the tripod plate, all three tubes and live view :) I could get into macro.

Cheers guys.

Lovely colours and subject - having the 1.4x off would have allowed space for the legs and feet, but then viewed large it looks just great......can't decide which I'd prefer :wavey: :toast: :toast:

Such a beautiful animal, and this is a cracking shot of it, I love the setting and the great eye contact, good work, Neil.

I agree with Oscar re the Roe in pink flowers, that is one of the best RD shots I have seen in a long time.

Cheers guys. I really do wish I had more time with them, especially now the fawns are tucked away in the bush. I have seen a few, traversing the clearings with mothers but have yet to shoot them.

Oscar, which shot with the flowers (there are two ;) )

Unfortunately, ticks and roe deer go together. My one reptile site where I can guarantee going home with a few unwanted lodgers is a site with a high roe deer population. However, the shot is worth a little inconvenience, and I really like the composition.
